Rich: Please state your name and what you do in the band? Forrest: my name is farrrest and i sing, play guitar and do some other stuff in the band. Rich: You've had a great year as a band with getting signed to DTR. When did they first start showing interest in your band? Forrest: about a year ago. I've known them for a long while, I used to do graphics and website stuff for them, so when i got a call from them I figured it was that they had some graphics job for me or something. But then I was told they liked my band haha. Rich: For people who haven't heard Hellogoodbye, could you describe your sound? Forrest: Really gay Rich: How did you feel about your EP being made available for free download? Forrest: Well i think its great. We got some ridiculous amount of downloads, some number we surely wouldn't have matched if we were selling copies. so it was good promotion, now hopefully kids liked it and wanna buy the full length that'll come out soon (which has all the good songs on it anyways haha) Rich: How do you feel about illegal file sharing programs like Kazaa? Where whole albums can be downlaoded and burned on CD? Forrest: haha well I stopped using em, im not even really sure why. In the case of promotion where the band and the label are in a position to give it away for promotional purposes, it can be a greaaat tool, one that people have never had available to them before. But it truely does hurt the band if people download their music instead of buy it. Its a trickle down effect. If the label isn't making money, the bands making less money, and soon record labels wont have the budgets they used to (soon, or now) and wont sign as many bands and sign them for less money and less musicians will even find it possible to be a full time band. Then you wont even have the music to download! Rich: Now that Chris has joined the band and you have a full line up again can we expect more touring? Forrest:Any touring would be more touring haha, but yea we are setting a bunch of stuff up this summer, hopefully we get to go to the UK soon! Rich: Speaking of tours, which 4 bands from DTR would you most like to be on tour with if another DTR Invasion tour happened with your guys on it and why? Forrest: hmm The Early November cause they look like a blast, NFG cause they are apparenty the nicest guys on the planet (and then the shows would be huge haha) The Starting Line cause I hear that Kenny is a gentle soul and Rx Bandits cause they are good live. Rich: Lets go back in time a little bit. How did the band get started and how did it end up where it is today? Forrest: Magic. I got recording in my bedroom at night, got some songs, got some shows, got some bandmates, then I lived in our lockout rehearsal space for a good 4 months. Then somehow we got signed and became what we are today. Rich: Do you have any plans to tour oveseas? The UK maybe? Japan always seems really into your style of music. Forrest: o0o japan huh? yea thatd be a blast. See, I've never been anywhere. I can't wait to go anywhere! The UK would be a blast for suresies, Japan I hear is pretty crazy, our old drummer went there with another old band. He said everyone smokes and girls dont understand flirting. But he said people at shows are just having a good time, they donąt even care whos playing or what music is happening on stage they are just movin around haha. So if thats the case, ya they might like us over there. Rich: For all us UK kids can you tell us what your live show is like? Forrest: Its like the beatles. Rich: Lastly you've just released a video for Call 'N' Return. That has to beone of my favourite videos for a long while. Where did you get the idea from? Forrest: aha thanks. Well we were working with one of the video guys at drive thru, Scott Culver, and we tossed some ideas around and the first thing we agreed on was that we wanted to do whatever Will Farrell would do in this situation. We tossed around and concept that involved fake moustaches and good costumes, landed on tennis and worked from there haha. Rich: Anything else you'd like to add?
