You are reading an interview with Bloodlined Calligraphy (BLC)

conducted by Dean Ward on 14 February 2005

A quick interview with XALLYX of BLC, using the wonders of myspace!

1. OK, first things first, who are you and what’s your role in BLC?
I am XALLYX, vocalist for Bloodlined Calligraphy (BLC).

2. So . . . you’re from YPSILANTI eh? Excuse our ignorance, but where is that then??
About 30 minutes away from Detroit, MI.

3. Last month you finished recording your new full-length “They Want You Silent.” How did that go?
Amazing. We recorded with Mike Hasty from Walls of Jericho at Cloud City in Redford, MI. I highly recommend that studio. The recording process was relatively smooth minus a minor throat infection I had during the vocal recording process. We are very happy with how the CD turned out.

4. Instead of me dragging up loads of lame comparisons to BLC, why don’t you tell us who your influences are.
We all have different influences musically. From power metal to old school to tough guy to country to plain old rock and roll and rap, we like everything.

5. Have you decided to play more shows to promote the new CD?
Definetly. We take off for tour in April and we plan on going full-time after that.

6. I heard from a friend ( no I really did ), that BLC are a Christian straight edge band. True? False?
False. We are a Christian band. However, only two members of our band are Straight Edge...myself and Eric. As far as being a Christian band, you won't ever see us shove Christianity down people's throats from the stage, we're more about telling people God loves them regardless of their faults.

7. Hardcore has had a lot of sexism (if you will) within the scene/s in the past. A lot of females are breaking through in hardcore now days. What are your personal thoughts on this?
I think it can be awesome. There are some girls that are only in the scene for popularity reasons or to try and get with guys in bands and that makes me pretty mad. However, the girls in hardcore that are here for the music and refuse to leave even when confronted by guys, I think that's awesome. I wrote a song about this for the new album and Candace, from Walls of Jericho, was awesome enough to do it with me and it turned out great.

8. How did you come about to work with FaceDown Records?
Jason Dunn from Facedown heard us play while he was out with Sinai Beach for a couple shows in Michigan. He must have liked what he heard and saw because he asked us to join the Facedown roster the next day. We absolutely love Facedown Records. The staff at Facedown has to be one of the best in the music industry because they care about their bands both musically and on a personal level, which is so rare in the current music scene.

9. In no more than 15 words, tells us where BLC hopes to be this time next year!
In a van or on tour playing our music for kids that love us.

10. Last but not least, plug your heart out with web sites
