You are reading an interview with Halifax

conducted by Rich on 21 May 2005

Gamefoe:
What are your names and what do you do in the band?

Adam:

My name is Adam and I play guitar in Halifax.

Mike:
My name is Mike and I’m the singer of Halifax.

Chris:
My Name Is Chris and I play guitar and sing in Halifax.

Gamefoe:
How’s the tour going so far? I know it’s only one day in but…

Adam:

It was a great day though, a good way to start off a tour. It’s been a lot of fun, we’ve been having fun with the bands and the show last night was awesome so. If that’s a taste of how the whole tour will be it’ll be a fun tour.

Gamefoe:
You doing the UK then heading into Europe as well?

Adam:

We are yeah. We do about 10 dates in the UK and then maybe 7 or 8 in mainland Europe. Should be fun.

Gamefoe:
Which countries are you going to?

Adam:
We’re doing dates in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Brussels I think. I dunno.

Gamefoe:
So the EP has just come out over here, do you guys know how it’s doing over here? Is it well received?

Adam:
I don’t even know how it’s doing over here. Do you guys know?

Gamefoe’s
sidekick: Well I like it.

Adam:
Last night was out first ever show in Europe and it was really cool because kids were singing along and responding pretty well to it.

Gamefoe:
Do you notice any difference between the UK and US shows?

Adam:
The shows are really good. I mean, there’s some crazy stuff back home, but it was a good show. All around. Internationally.

Chris:
It’s awesome to be able to come over to a whole different country and have kids yell back the words at you. It’s an amazing feeling.

Gamefoe:
If you guys could be superheros what powers would you have?

Adam:

X-Ray vision obviously.

Mike:
That’s all that really matters. Naked Girls.

Gamefoe’s sidekick
There had to be one. I was waiting for that.

Chris:
I’d like to fly.

Adam:
I was just going to say I’d like to fly too.

Mike:
I’d like to be like that Stretch Armstrong guy, who can stretch his arms out.

Adam:
Stretch other parts of you body out too.

Gamefoe:
If you guys weren’t in a band what would you be doing at the moment?

Adam:
Schoolage.

Mike:
Yeah probably just school.

Gamefoe:
What subjects were you really into?

Adam:
I was doing some recording stuff at the university. But I dropped out of that so…

Gamefoe:
When you re-did all the artwork for the ‘A Writers Reference EP’ who decision was it that it got redone?

Chris:
It was kind of mutual between us and the label. We wanted to make it look like a new CD we didn’t want to have the same artwork and the same songs. So we agreed new art for it and wanted to put a new song on it, for something new to make kids who already had the original ‘A Writers Reference EP’ go buy the new one so we put a bonus acoustic track on it and we also did some enhanced footage on it.

Gamefoe:
So have you really noticed things taking off since you’ve been on Drive Thru?

Chris:
Yeah it’s been going well.

Adam:
Yeah, they’ve done some amazing stuff as far as a label goes. It’s a good label to be on. They want to make us happy.

Gamefoe:
If you could make up a band of other members of other bands past and present who would be in it?

Chris:
I’d go with Lars.

Adam:
From Metalicca?

Mike:
Jimmy Page, Bob Marley

Adam:
Brain May probably.

Gamefoe:
You guys looking to record again anytime soon?

All:
We just finished recording an album.

Adam:
Two days before we left for tour. The title is….. say it Mike

Mike:
“The inevitability of a Strange World” and should be out mid to late August or September.

Gamefoe:
What’s t like compared to the EP?

Mike:

I hate saying it because every band says it but it’s a more mature version of the band you know?

Chris:
There’s something for everyone on it.

Adam:
It’s very diverse.

Gamefoe:
Did you re record any of your old stuff?

Mike:

No, all new stuff. I guess it’s really thought out. Where the EP was throwing things together to make demos and that, here we made a record that we are super proud of.

Gamefoe:
So in the same way there was a big jump from the first album to the EP there is going to be a big jump from the EP to this album?

Chris

What first album?

Gamefoe: (slightly confused) “Start Back At Start”?

Mike:

We don’t really consider that this band.

Gamefoe:
Really? What’s the reason for that?

Chris:
Well for the most part it was different members except me and him (Mike).

Mike:
The other members left the band and we started writing the new EP and when Adam and Tommy joined we were going to change the name, so this is supposed to be a different named band. But we couldn’t think of anything and kept the name Halifax. So we don’t promote those songs, we don’t sell that CD at all.

Chris:
That first CD was the first stuff that me and Mike wrote together and it’s just like super cheesy.

Mike:
Hopefully this new record will open us up to a wider audience.

Gamefoe:
Will that be released here at the same sort of time?

Mike:

I’m not totally positive on how that’s going to work. I hope it will.

Gamefoe:
If you could describe the band in five words what would they be?

Adam:
Rock And Fuck Ing Roll. But “ing” is not really a word.

Chris:
I got it for you guys over here: Rock And Bloody Fucking Roll.

Gamefoe:
So how many people last night told you about the bank Halifax?

Adam:
None! Surprisingly. We found out about it on our own.

Gamefoe:
I thought people would be telling you every two minutes.

Adam:

They told us about the town.

Mike:
It was really funny, I saw a logo for the bank Halifax you know, and our manager a while back was researching logos for Halifax to do with the City in Noversociah and I remember seeing that logo and thinking “we should make a shirt out of this logo”. If we had made that shirt and brought it here, kids would have been like…. (freaked out face)

Gamefoe:
and you may have been sued!

Mike:

Yeah. True.

Gamefoe:
What bands are you checking out right now? Say you could go on tour and take three small bands with you who would you take?

Mike:

The Hire. Their CD is really, really fucking good.

Adam:
There’s two bands back home, one called The Hire and one called Cartel. Just small bands but we’re really good friends with them. We try and support them whenever we can.

Mike:
(A band that)Before this tour I’d never heard much of, but I’m pretty sure all of us are huge fans of now are I Am The Avalanche too.

Chris:
Defiantly

Adam:
Yeah!

Mike:
They have shown us rough mixes of the record.

Adam:
It’s going to be a killer record.

Gamefoe:
Are there any UK bands that you are into?

Adam:
We don’t get that many in the States. Only the huge ones like Lostprophets and Funeral For A Friend but we don’t get to hear that much of it.

Gamefoe:
Cheers is there anything you’d like to add?

Mike:
Join us on MySpace!

Adam:
Is MySpce big over here?

Gamefoe’s sidekick:
Yeah I’ve got MySpace.

Mike:
We love it.

Adam:
In the United States every single person is on MySpace!

Cheers to Rachel for sorting the interview out.
