The Fight (Kate) Sept/Oct 2003

-Hi, could you start by introducing yourself and saying what part you play in 'the fight'?

Hello, my name is K8 and I play guitar and sing in the fight.

-How did the signing to Fat Wreck come about?

The signing to Fat Wreck came about when our demo was sent out to a bunch of different labels in the states – we got a call from Fat saying that they wanted to put something out with us, so we did!

-Obviously this has helped you a lot, but there has been a lot of animosity surrounding the signing, would you say this has been more of a hindrance than a help to you?

I really have no clue why people think that we suck because of it! I still think it has been more help than anything – it’s been amazing. And to be fair if people don’t like it, it’s their fucking problem! We’re having too much of a fun time as a band to let people who don’t like us bring us down.

-Overall though, what’s it like being signed to possibly THE best punk label in the world?

Like I said, it’s been amazing. We are having such a great experience, and we have done stuff that people our age could only ever dream of doing! We appreciate and love everything that is happening to us.

-Recently you toured with Rancid, what was that like? What with them having the status that they do?

Going on tour with Rancid was a lot of fun – I had a rad time. It didn’t really matter to us about what status Rancid are at, because they are great guys and we had a lot fun with them. It wasn’t a matter of them being like huge rock stars or anything – they are just normal lovely people. They gave us a great opportunity to go on tour with them and play to a lot of new people that had no clue what the fight was. I would say it was definitely one of the best tours we have done so far.

-Any good/funny tour stories you wish to share?

Oh there are many, many great road stories that we have! But we keep our stories on the road where they belong!

-Who would you accredit as your major influences and who do you aspire to when you write your songs?

As a band we have a lot of different influences. Some of them include: NOFX, Green Day, No Doubt, The Clash, Sham 69, Bob Marley, The Buzzcocks, Dr Dre, The Human League, Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix, MxPx, The Distillers, Desmond Decker, Oasis, Skunk Anansie, Stereophonics, Pink, Destiny’s Child, Blur, The Fugees, Rancid, T-Rex, Slade, Steelers Wheel, Deep Purple, Rod Stewart, Iggy Pop, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Aretha Frankilin, The Four Tops, Pennywise, Metallica, Frank Zappa, Adam and the Ants, The Sex Pistols, A-Ha.............. When I write songs, I aspire towards writing something that is catchy and good.

-What are the fight’s plans for the future? Anything gamefoe should know about?

Well hopefully it will be time to release our full length album soon. We’re not sure when it’s gonna be coming out, but I guess we’ll be doing a lot of touring around the time of the release.

-OK thanks, lastly, is there anyone who you would like to thank?

I would like to thank all the people that have helped us out as a band. Just generally anyone that’s ever been involved with the fight.
