V/A - What's Across The Pond Vol. 2

by Rich on 20031231

First things first, after "What's Across The Pond Vol.1" is was very VERY excited about this CD. The guys at the label are great and they deserved for this to be their best comp yet. Unfortunatly it doesn't quite achieve that for them.

The second of the "What's Across The Pond" series isn't quite up to the standard that the first was. I think their is a simple reason for this. The people at Eyesore Records have decided to take a risk and have slightly more underground bands on this CD than the last and whilst it is brave move it hasn't quite worked. Where on volume 1 you had bands like Park, Plain White T's, The Early November, The Starting Line and Fall Out Boy this time there are bands that aren't quite as good.

Most of the songs on the CD are good, offerings from The Get Go, The Prize Fight, Stu's Shoes, Monty's Fan Club and Don't Look Down are absoultly brilliant. But there are a few more songs on this CD that aren't on a par with vol 1. The Better Half and Distance From Afar don't really improve the CD in my opinon. Yes the bands are more underground, but there is probably a reason for this.

But overal this is a good CD and well worth buying for the cheap price of just £5, maybe Eyesore Records should either do a UK version next or realise a bands album as there doesn't seem to be much further they can run with the "What's Across The Pond" series.
